Government Aims to Boost Economic Growth and Job Creation
Accra, Ghana – In a significant move to foster economic growth, job creation, and technological advancement, the Honorable Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, officially outdoored the first call for proposals for the Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF) during a press briefing held at the Ministry of Education.
The Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF) forms an integral part of the Ghana Jobs & Skills project, designed to address the critical skills and technological requirements of enterprises operating in both the formal and informal sectors of the Ghanaian economy.
At the press briefing, Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum emphasized the importance of empowering the nation’s workforce with the necessary skills and expertise to drive innovation and productivity, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the country.
“As we focus on propelling Ghana towards a prosperous future, the Ghana Skills Development Fund will play a pivotal role in equipping our workforce with the relevant skills to meet the demands of today’s dynamic business environment,” remarked Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
The GSDF will operate as a challenge fund, actively encouraging and supporting proposals from various enterprises seeking to enhance their workforce’s capabilities and implement cutting-edge technologies to boost productivity and competitiveness. A total of $60 million has been earmarked for disbursement over the course of five years, reflecting the government’s commitment to ensuring long-term sustainable growth.
The launch event witnessed the presence of esteemed Deputy Ministers for Education, Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo and Hon. Rev. Ntim Fordjour, who echoed the Minister’s sentiments on the significance of investing in skills development to propel Ghana towards becoming a knowledge-driven economy.
Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo said, “The GSDF represents a transformational opportunity for businesses, both large and small, to thrive in the global marketplace by empowering their workforce and embracing innovation. This initiative is a testament to the government’s dedication to driving economic growth and fostering a future-ready workforce.”
Through the GSDF, enterprises of all sizes will have the chance to access financial support to implement training programs, upgrade their technological infrastructure, and address specific skills gaps in their workforce.
Prospective applicants are invited to submit their proposals in response to the call for proposal announcement, with detailed guidelines available on the Ministry of Education’s official website.
The Minister concluded the briefing with an invitation to stakeholders from various sectors to actively participate in the GSDF program, underscoring the importance of collaboration to ensure sustainable and inclusive development for the nation.
